Student Life
Daily Life on Campus
Students at our academy enjoy a structured yet engaging daily routine. Classes begin at 9:00 AM with our signature morning problem-solving session, where students work collaboratively on challenging mathematical concepts. Throughout the day, students attend rigorous coursework taught by our dedicated faculty, participate in study halls, and engage in peer tutoring sessions.
Our small class sizes ensure personalized attention, with a student-to-teacher ratio of 5:1. This allows our educators to provide individualized support while maintaining high academic standards that prepare students for success in advanced mathematics competitions and future academic pursuits.
Mule Day
One of our most beloved annual traditions is Mule Day, celebrated every December 11th in honor of our founder Jason Horowitz's half birthday. This special day has become a highlight of the academic calendar, bringing together students, faculty, and staff for a day of celebration and community bonding.
The centerpiece of Mule Day is our traditional chocolate cake celebration, held in the main dining hall. Students and faculty gather to share stories, enjoy delicious cake, and take a well-deserved break from their rigorous academic schedule. "Mule Day is something everyone looks forward to all year," says student Noemi Barbagli. "It's a time when the whole school comes together, and you really feel like part of a family."
Academic Competitions and Achievements
Our students consistently excel in regional and national mathematics competitions. Recent accomplishments include:
- Hannah Fox earning a spot on the U.S. Team for the 2025 International Mathematical Olympiad
- Academy team earning silver at the INTEGIRLS Math Competition
- Multiple students qualifying for the AIME and USAMO annually
We provide comprehensive preparation for various competitions through our after-school coaching programs and specialized training sessions led by our experienced faculty.
Student Organizations and Clubs
Our Math Club meets weekly to explore recreational mathematics, work on challenging problems, and prepare for competitions. All students are welcome to join regardless of skill level.
Student Government provides leadership opportunities and gives students a voice in school policies and activities. Elections are held each fall semester.
The Debate Team develops critical thinking and public speaking skills while competing against other schools throughout the region.
Students participate in math tutoring programs at local elementary schools and organize fundraising activities for educational charities.
Informal study groups form around specific subjects and are supported by faculty advisors and peer tutors.
